Chronicles iOS App Review

Time. We all have the same amount in a day, yet some appear to have more in a day. It's all about how you manage it. How do you really spend your time? Have you ever though about how long you spend driving around each day? Or how long your children spend watching TV? So much can be learned from watching how we spend our time!
Chronicles is a new iOS app that is a Stopwatch and Timer, and then stores the times recorded to it’s own in-built Calendar.

The Basics
The concept is simple. What good is a timer is you are not able to track the data? Chronicles allows you to set up profiles for different people and activities and operate either a stop watch or a timer. It then saves your activities for viewing later on the built in calendar or in the Chronicle. There are different alarms available, including a silent alarm.

We have 5 children, and there are many times they all want to play with or on something. I find it is very hard to set time limits and enforce them. I get busy, they don't watch the clock, and before you know it, someone is complaining that their brother got it longer. The favourite function saves me the hassle of setting a timer manually each time. This is also great during tests we administer while home schooling.

Why You Will Love It
  • Easy to set up and use
  • The calendar can be exported to a CSV file for further analysis
  • Endless uses! Parents can use Chronicles to see how long children are watching TV, or playing video games over a week, or set limits for activities.
The more I use Chronicles, the more uses I can think of! Use it to time your babies naps, and then trend them, use it to time how long you read each day, and try to increase it, the possibilites are truly endless.

Buy It
Chronicles is available at the App store for $1.99.

There is a free version available with banners and less features so you can try it your self!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Mission Giveaway: Two Little Hands Productions

I am so excited to bring you this week's Mission Giveaway. Communication is a skill most of us take for granted. It comes naturally. I know first hand that it does not always come to every child. Our sponsor this week, Two Little Hands Productions has open the doors of communication on more than one occasion in our home. One thing people don't realize is how beneficial sign language is, even in babies with out communication challenges.

About Our Sponsor

Two Little Hands Productions was created in 2002 by two sisters, Emilie Brown and Rachel Coleman. Their plan was to make a short DVD that gave their friends and family a fun and easy way to learn a second language, but most importantly to sign with Leah (Rachel's daughter, who is deaf). In May of 2002 the first volume of Signing Time! was completed, starring Rachel, 3-year-old Alex and 5-year-old Leah. The response was overwhelming. Testimonials poured in, with touching stories about how Signing Time had been instrumental in dissolving communication barriers and giving a "voice" to children who previously had no way to express themselves. Everyone wanted more Signing Time. Rachel and Emilie's company, Two Little Hands Productions, was born.

Since then, Two Little Hands product lines have grown to include Baby Signing Time, Practice Time, Sing & Sign, Story Time, Potty Time and Rachel and the TreeSchoolers. Each of the product lines have received numerous awards. Rachel was nominated for the "Outstanding Performer in a Children's Series," as part of the 35th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy® Awards.

Fisher Price Best Laugh

Have you check out Fisher Price lately?
Fisher Price knows kids, and is much more than just quality toys! Fisher Price has just launched a brand new site Laugh & Learn. Laugh and Learn is an online world for your little one filled with their favourite Fisher Price characters, games, webisodes and more. All from the brand we grew up with and still trust for our own children.

To celebrate the launch of this new site, Fisher Price is holding a new contest for the Best Little Laugh.  There is something about those first smiles, and laughs that capture your heart, and it is worth celebrating! No matter how many children you have, each first smile is special, and sharing it is a joy for every mother. When Little S smiled for the first time, I spent days trying to get a picture so I could show it off! He loved his mobile, and would smile and coo at it in the crib.
Little C was easy to make smile. She loved to be tickled, and kissed. Sharing those moments is like reliving them all over again. Upload your Best Little Laugh for your chance to win.

The contest ends on July 15, and there is a new winner every week. Each Prize Pack consists of one Laugh & Learn Crawl Around Car, one Laugh & Learn Love to Play Puppy and one $100 Gas Card.  The Laugh & Learn Crawl Around Car isn't in stores yet, and you have a chance to win one first, all for just sharing the laughter.

Disclosure: I am part of the Fisher-Price Blogger Campaign with Mom Central Canada and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.

Remodling Time

This post brought to you by Royal Building Products. All opinions are 100% mine.

If you are following my blog, you know I wrote not long ago about wanting to redo the siding on my home.  Our homes say a lot about our personality. We spend so much time deciding on the little things, some times we forget about the big things.

Right now we have wood siding on our exterior, and the paint is pealing, the colors are not me and don't match the rest of the house. To me, it's an eye sore, and I am searching for ideas. It is so hard to pick new things for my home! I always nervous about the end result.  I am leading toward vinyl siding right now, and picking the right color combinations is challenging.

That is why I love Royal Building Products new Virtual Remodeler. It is so easy to use, and you you can even upload your own photos to see exactly how the colors will look on your home. A big improvement to holding swatches up! I am leaning towards choosing something bold, with curb appeal, something that will "pop." Choosing a bolder color can be risky, and I need to be sure before I buy. What I love on someone else's house, might not look good on my house, The last thing I want is to be staring at something I hate for the next 10 years!

I love how easy it is to see my colors come to life, right on the site! Our homes are an investment, and we need to make the most out of it. Visit Royal Building Products and try out the Virtual Remodeler. You will be surprised at how simple it is.

Is Your Spring Cleaning Really Over?

This post brought to you by Insurance Hunter. All opinions are 100% mine.

The snow is gone, the grass is growing, flowers are blooming. Spring is here. Spring cleaning is a given for most people, a clear time to remember to tackle all those big jobs that wait for us. How many of us actually think about our car? It is really just as important as spring cleaning the house, if not more important. After all, our family rides in our vehicle for hours at a time, and the house isn't moving at 60 miles per hour!

Insurance Hunter has a great article about taking car of our vehicles this spring. It was a good reminder for me what needs to be done to get our van ready for summer. While readying the article, I realized I always pack a winter survival kit while traveling in the winter in case of a break down, but isn't it just as important to pack a summer survival kit? If we have a break down in the summer, a hot vehicle can be just as scary. If we have to walk for help, when do I carry hats, and sunscreen? What about water? We always need to be prepared.

Plus, think about all the sand, salt, and dirt that gets stuck to our feet, and in turn stays in our vehicles all winter long. No one takes the time to vacuum it up in the bitter cold, but do you really want it there all summer?

Check out Insurance Hunter. They not only offer auto insurance quotes, but have great articles that are filed with tips for our busy lives. Check out the vehicle spring cleaning article for more great tips, and stay prepared all year round!

Revolt Week 3 - Don't Quit!

Did you know that it takes 21 days to form a new habit? That is only 3 weeks. This was my third week doing the Revolt Fitness program, so I am guessing that means the hard part is over, right?

The funny thing is, it is not that hard! The food is amazing, the work outs are challenging, but fly by.
I can't say the work outs are easy though, if they were, you wouldn't be accomplishing anything. This past week has been a hard one for me on the work outs. I am not an active person, remember, I like my tea and a good book over a long walk.

This week, I found my self starting to give my self excuses durring the work outs. Then it hit me, I sound like my kids! What do I say when my kids say "I can't!" Do I let them quit? No! So how can I let my self? I can't is a lie we tell our selves to give us a way out.

Little S is my "I Can't" kid. Tie your shoe. "I can't!" Pick up that bag. "It's too heavy." Do I let him get away with it? No! He says I can't with out trying. When he tries, he sees how silly he is. I can't is a cop out. A big fat lie. Sure, you might not be able to do it perfect at first, but work at it. Then see. Don't cop out! Don't be the "I can't" kid. You will never know what you are capable of if you never try.

Ok, so now the week end progress report.
Starting weight: 194 lbs
Current weight: 186 lbs! 8 lbs in 3 weeks is not to shabby!

Jack and Lily My Shoes Review And Giveaway

Good footwear is so important in children learning to walk. There are many quality shoes, but most of us just run and buy shoes close by, where we can find them cheapest. They not only are a fashion statement, but can effect how our feet develop, our posture, and over all health. Choosing quality footwear for our children is important.

About Jack & Lily

    The Best Mother's Day Gift

Mother's Day for most Moms is breakfast in bed, a day off, a day at the spa maybe. Flowers, cards chocolates, hugs, kisses, just love from the kids. For us, Mother's Day is a bit trickier. Our Sundays are always filled with church activities. We hold 2 services, plus Sunday School, and since we rent a space, we have to set up and clean up. All I ask for is no cooking! This year I received more, much more. Something so special I am tearing up just sharing it with you.

As you may know from past posts, Little C is disabled. We still don't know what the cause is, and we may never know. She shows she understands, but it is usually subtle things,  milk, cookies, Daddy, bye bye.
While she was in the church nursery, the volunteer made Mother's Day cards with the children. She traced their little hands as stems for flowers. That in it self it a wonderful gift, but that is not the gift that makes me teary. I was showing the paper to my brother while holding Little C. She reached out and placed her hand on the hand print. She then repeatedly pointed to the cut out hand print. She remembered it was her hand.  She understood! This is the most amazing thing I have ever felt.

I am so filled with joy over she showing me this. I always question how much she really understands. Now I know. Not all gifts have price tags. Some don't come on a plate, or paper. Some times the best gift is seeing something so precious, and letting it touch you heart a little.
What is the best Mother's Day gift you have ever received?

    Revolt Week 2 Report

So, I have completed week 2 of Revolt Fitness, and I am loving it!
Last week I talked about why Revolt was different, and didn't even scratch the surface of the differences between Revolt and other programs yet!
I have watched family and friends do different fad diets. Most of them involve drastic cuts to calorie intake, and little to no exercise. I each case, I watch as the weight comes off, and then slowly comes back on. No real change happens. I have heard the arguments.
"By counting calories I am learning about portin size"
"It's a lifestyle change, I don't plan to quit watching what I eat."
"you just need to burn more calories than you consume"

Sure, it lasts a while, but then temptation hits! That chocolate cake.......or greasy pizza. Oh, it's only one day......tomorrow I'll do better. Sound familiar?

Well, in a perfect world, we would all resist temptation, but it's all around us.
We need to revolt against our normals. It is not normal to eat until you are full. It is not normal to not cook your own food. It is not normal to be overweight.
It is normal too be active.
It is normal to have more muscle than body fat.
It is normal to fuel our body, not just eat as a past time.
Learning to change your thinking is a hard one. Food is a part of our social society. We eat when we are bored, we eat when we are depressed, we eat with friends. We need to change this thinking before we can expect a lasting change to our bodies.
If we expect to repair our bodies, we need to repair our thinking. Revolt is helping me with that. The program is designed to build lean muscle and reduce fat. I am amazed at how much delicious food we get to eat!

Now for the moment of truth....I am happy to report a toltal loss of 6.7 lbs! It is amazing, that I am never hungry. Some days I even struggle to get my food all in, but it is worth it. I love the simplicity of the diet. Cook once, reheat and enjoy!

Next week, I will have my body fat callipers,  and am excited to watch as my body fat percentage goes down as I continue on this journey!

Are you ready to Revolt? Join the next Uprising in June and say good bye to your old self. Instead of spending money on shakes, and gym memberships that never get used, try something different. Try something that works. It's only $10 per month, and for $50 you can receive lifetime access!
Sign up here and say good bye to your old body. Say hello to a new healthy you!

Disclaimer: I was given a free Revolt Membership for the purpose of this review. All opinions are my own.

Thrifty Thursdays: Fighting With Your Pantry

The common cold. The Flu. You would thing that with all the advances in medicine, they would have a cure! Instead, we all get them, and all have to wait them out. Sometimes what starts as a runny stuffed up nose becomes a stubborn cough, and fever, chills, cogestion, head aches. Oh the pain! What then? If you go to the doctor, it is probably a virus. Just get some rest, right?
Well, there are some home remedies that can alleviate your symptoms and help speed up your recovery.   Most are things you already have, so why not use them? Turns out, the remedies our moms and grandmothers used have some merit, and they are cheaper than store bought!

    Honey
Honey can soothe throats and calm coughs. Studies are now even backing up the benefits of this age old natural treatment! Ancient Egypt knew this. Honey was used to treat a number of conditions, insect bites, wounds, and other illness. In recent studies, parents are finding the children treated with honey slept better and had their cold symptoms lessened. When you are faced with a small child coughing all night, this can be the difference between sleep, and no sleep!

***Due to the risk of infant botulism, a rare but serious form of food poisoning, never give honey to a child younger than age 1.

    Chicken Soup
Yes, old faithful chicken soup is the best thing! Not only is it a comfort food, but it works as an expectorant, and is filled with other nutrients to help keep us well such as our next remedy....

    Garlic
Garlic is a natural antibiotic, and anti-fungal , making it perfect for any thing that is making you ill. It is easy to put in any food. I even know of people who eat it whole as part of their health routine.

Not only can the foods around your house help, but some extras can speed your recovery, or keep those bugs from taking you down in the first place!

    Vitamin D
Most people don't realize that Vitamin D is an immune system regulator. Taken regularly it can help your body fight! Moms will remember the lecture about our babies getting Vitamin D while nursing, but it is important that we all get enough. The further North you live, the less sunshine we get.Vitamin D is absorbed by exposure to sunlight. This means us Northerners are deprived in the Winter months, so the summer is just not enough to build up in our bodies. That is why it is fortified in dairy products. Vitamin D is also found in mushrooms, whole eggs, beef liver, and fatty fish species.

    Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a natural antihistamine. We all remember being pumped with orange juice when we were sick. Well, it helps!

I have nursed my handful through many viruses and flu bugs. We rarely seek medical attention because I have learned these, and other tricks to keep us healthy. Please remember, this is tricks form my stash, and is not meant to replace medical attention. I know my handful. I know when they need more than I can give, and you need to trust your gut with your own health, and that of your loved ones.

So for those of you who are Gluten Free, have you missed eating cream of wheat? Boy I have! Cream of wheat was a winter favorite of mine and now I have found something that feels just as creamy and smooth as it but tastes even better! Montana Gluten Free also makes a Cream of Oats which rivals or surpasses cream of wheat. Below you will see a picture of my Cream of Oats with brown sugar and soy milk that I ate this week.

I had their Pumpkin Pastry Mix made into Pumpkin Bread at the Expo and it was fantastic! So all I have left to make is their Dark Bread Mix, which I am told is fabulous with some rye flavoring!
